PRP is an adjunctive supportive treatment option and even approved by the US FDA to treat hair loss. Hair loss a cause of psychological distress and can be associated with low self-esteem issues and depression. But since the hair fall, cause of hair loss, and hair thinning varies from person to person, the treatment options also differ. Hence a combination therapy is usually preferred instead of mono-therapy for maximum possible results.
Let’s see the video, where I have tried to explain the PRP treatment for hair loss in a better way.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair regrowth is very effective, in-office, nonsurgical procedure. PRP, an autologous treatment derived from patient’s own blood. Hardly one hour required to perform PRP. Basically, during the PRP, after identifying the area of concern, standardized medical photos captured. Special gentle and sterile techniques and equipment are used to separate and concentrate the platelets and plasma from a small sample of blood taken from your own body.
With this improved platelet concentration, PRP also contains growth factors and cytokines. These are responsible for stimulating and enhancing hair follicle function for stronger and longer hair growth duration. Patients with weak quality hair growth areas on the scalp, where functioning hair follicles can still be observed. These are ideal candidates for PRP.
PRP therapy follows in three steps and may need up to three treatments at an interval of 4–6 weeks i.e. one month particularly. This then followed with treatments required for maintaining the hair growth after every 4–6 months.
Step 1: Blood, taken from the patient’s body, and then centrifuged in the device.
Step 2: It separates platelets from other blood components. This causes the red blood cells to settle at the bottom of the vial. In this centrifuged blood above the red blood cells, it contains the white blood cells and platelets with plasma. The highest layer contains a clear solution which is actually a blood plasma.
Step 3: Doctor then removes the platelet-poor plasma i.e. PPP and separates the white blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma i.e. PRP. The doctor then uses this Platelet-rich plasma for the therapy.
Generally, no activity restriction advised after PRP sessions. Patients may shampoo, condition and shower their hair normally. After several hours of treatment and may resume normal daily and athletic activities. Advised to avoid harsh chemical coloring or perming treatments. If Minoxidil prescribed you can resume very next day.
PRP is a simple, very cost-effective and feasible treatment option. It is a very valuable adjuvant treatment modality for hair loss management. Relatively low-cost and Excellent safety profile are other added features too. So, to answer the question: Is PRP effective for hair loss then answer is Yes. PRP, if done by a qualified dermatologist in a well-equipped setup, is beneficial and very much effective.
Therefore, I hope you have received all the pieces of information about PRP and is PRP effective for hair loss.
