Male Hair Loss

I am suffering from hair loss since 3 months, which is the best medicine to stop that? i am 42 year old male.

Hello,

The only FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of hair loss in both male and female are minoxidil and finasteride, which you can get over the counter after proper prescription. But this should be taken after knowing the actual cause of your hair loss, suppose if your hair loss is due to some pathological cause or underlying disease then you should first get treated for that condition then and then only hair loss will be stopped. Following are the other pathological reasons

  1. Alopecia areata
  2. Hypothyroidism
  3. Anti-cancer drugs
  4. Anabolic steroids

and many more.

But if you have androgenetic alopecia which is the most common case, probably can be your minoxidil and finasteride works.

  1. Minoxidil works by increasing the blood flow to the follicles of hair and extend the growth phase of follicles. it can be consumed oral and topical too
  2. Finasteride blocks enzyme called 5-alfa reductase which converts the testosterone into DHT ( cause hair loss), so prevents hair loss.

Along with this, there are other treatments modalities like

  1. Low-level laser therapy
  2. PRP
  3. Mesotherapy
  4. Micro needling

Which is better mesotherapy or PRP for hair loss?
